West Indies lowest score against Ireland:

On July 2, 1969, Ireland shocked the world and made the biggest upset of the 20th century in cricket by bowling out a mighty West Indies side for just 25 runs.

Ireland and West Indies locked horns in a one-day – two-innings game, which, in the event of a draw, would be won by the team taking first-innings lead.

After winning the toss West Indies decided to bat first. They took the Ireland too lightly and later faced tough challenge as none of their batter score in double digit number.

Steve Camacho and Joey Crew the opening duo walked in to middle to open the innings for West Indies. And in no time both walked back to the pavilion courtesy of Ireland’s deadly bowling duo of Alec O’Riordan and Douglas Goodwin.

Situation after losing both openers

Although West Indies still not looked worried after losing 2 quick wickets. But the anxiety in their camp increased when the one-by-one dismissals began to happen. They lost their six main batters for just 8 runs. And they could never make a comeback in the match. Their entire batting line-up crumbled like a pack of cards. Ireland produced some incredible piece of bowling as they bowled out the Caribbean side for a mere total of 25 runs.

The star of Ireland’s bowling were the skipper Goodwin bagged five wickets while Riordan dismissed four West Indies batters.

After a disastrous outing with the bat. The bowlers of West Indies failed to create any significant effect with the ball too.

Ireland scored 125 runs in the second innings with the loss of just eight wickets. David Pigot and Riordan did a perfect job for the Ireland side. Both added 37 and 35 runs to the scoreboard. With small contributions from other batters, the team was successful in reaching a respectable total.

For West Indies, John Shepherd bagged highest number of wickets (3). Joey Carew grabbed two. While Philbert Blair, Grayson, and Pascall Roberts took a wicket each.
