New Head Coach of South Arica: Both the men’s Test and white-ball sides have new head coaches, according to Cricket South Africa. Shukri Conrad will be in command of the Test team for the following four years and has vast experience in roles within Cricket South Africa.
While on the other hand, Mark Boucher will be replaced as the Men’s ODI and T20 teams’ coach by Rob Walter. Between 2009 to 2013, Walter served as the strength and conditioning coach for South Africa. He then relocated to New Zealand, where he most recently served as the Central Districts’ head coach.
In place of Mark Boucher
Mark Boucher, the head coach of South Africa, resigned from his position following the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia (October–November).
Boucher took over the position in December 2019 and will hold it through November 2022. During this time, he has guided the Proteas to 11 Test victories, including a memorable 2-1 series victory over India at home in January.
Cricket South Africa’s CEO Comments
Pholetsi Moseki, the Cricket of South Africa’s CEO, said “We are increasing the number of Test matches over the next four years and will continue to emphasize the importance of Test cricket.
“We take the Test format very seriously and are serious about being a nation that plays the game. We still consider ourselves to be a very serious Test-playing nation, and we haven’t consigned it to the sidelines because of T20. To restore our Test team to the standards we demand of them, we wish to make an investment.”
He then concluded by saying “We want to be in the top three (in the world), but we are pushing for No. 1, even if it takes another three or four years to get there. Over the next two years, we are solidifying our position and building a bigger player pool.”
New Coach Before the World Test Championship Final
While South Africa still has ambitions of making it to the World Test Championship final. Despite losses in their two most recent series in Australia and England. The Test coach will currently only have two matches scheduled – at home against West Indies in March. Another one in the next 11 months.
The Test coach will have a supervisory function in the first-class system during the lengthy intervals between Tests. So he can pick the right squad for the future Test series.
Present Chances of World Test Championship
