BCCI Seeks e-auction From ICC For Media Rights Sale

The International Cricket Council (ICC) was advised to use the e-auction method for the sale of its media rights by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This information has come to light during a dispute between the ICC and Indian broadcasters on the procedure for bidding on the media rights to international competitions.

At an ICC forum, the BCCI presented its proposal first. Jay Shah had proposed that the ICC use the online process, which the BCCI had twice successfully used, most recently for the Indian Premier League (IPL) rights, at the most recent Chief Executives Committee (CEC) meeting in Dubai in April. The process is praised for being transparent all around the world.

However, only in the second round did ICC agree to use the online methodology. Following a request from a few players in the Indian broadcast asking the international body to adopt the BCCI approach, the ICC made the decision through email. The ICC stated in an email that was in possession of this website that “In case further rounds of Bids are requested, IBC plans to use an e-auction process”

The ICC has argued that an e-auction is not the appropriate option for its offer since it is highly intricate and multifaceted. There is more than one way to do these things and they each don’t make the other wrong. Our approach is designed to drive maximum value for our members,” an ICC member added.

In the first round, the ICC decided to use closed bidding. On August 26, the sealed envelopes will be opened in Dubai, and if a second round is necessary, a notice of the e-auction will be sent to the parties that day. The sole region is covered by the tender in India, and it is for the 2024–31 cycle. There has a lot of confusion regarding the same and all parties are trying to solve it.
