Rather defended KL Rahul’s starting position in the batting order on Saturday.
Vikram Rathor backs K L Rahul: KL Rahul is under scrutiny because of these statistics even though India is having a great time in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.
MATCHES | INNINGS | RUNS | HIGHEST | AVERAGE | STRIKE RATE | FOURS |
2 | 2 | 13 | 9 | 20 | 65 | 1 |
Rahul played in the middle for a total of 20 minutes. As India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour arrived for the traditional Press conference prior to the Super 12 match against South Africa on Sunday in Perth, it was possible that his continued ineligibility for the starting lineup or his repeated failures were the only challenges.
Rathour did address the pending query.
Rathour defended KL Rahul’s starting position in the batting order on Saturday. Rahul dismissed for 4 and 9 in the games against Pakistan and the Netherlands. In each of India’s victories, the middle order saved the squad. Rahul will start against the Proteas, Rathour said, and there won’t be any adjustments to the top of the order.
“Does India want to bat Rishabh Pant at the top of the order in place of Rahul?”
Rathour said in reply, “We are not considering playing Pant ahead of Rahul in the batting order. The sample size of just two games is insufficient. He did well at bat in the exhibition game. Currently, we are not considering any such adjustments.”
No adjustments were made to the batting order. Although Rathour stated that the starting 11 for the crucial match against South Africa will be chosen after the players inspected the Perth Stadium at practice sessions. The workout was scheduled to follow the traditional press briefing.
Everything will be in consideration
Since we haven’t yet reached the ground, we haven’t sat down to talk. The discussions will start after we have a look at the team and the circumstances. We’ll do our utmost to assemble the best team possible.
Prior to the T20 World Cup, the Indian team travelled to Australia early and played two games against Western Australia and one warm-up match against Australia in Perth, which ended in a thrilling last-over contest. Rathour asserted that India will unquestionably benefit from having sessions on the ground.
“After practising in Perth, the team will undoubtedly be at an advantage.
Arriving in Perth early to participate in practise sessions was the biggest inspiration. We were aware that this game (against South Africa) would be crucial for us. That will undoubtedly be helpful. The batters on our squad don’t seem to mind the pace of the game. I have no worries. It appears to be good. Melbourne was challenging.
When questioned if Rishabh Pant was warming the bench?
Rathour responded that he had been told to be ready. Dinesh Karthik, a seasoned wicketkeeper-batsman, was given preference over Pant because of his finishing abilities and Panth’s underwhelming performance with the bat in T20Is.
Unfortunately, only XI will be able to join the squad.
Rishabh is a very skilled player, and we are aware of his potential against any team. He has been told to be ready because the chance could present itself at any time. He needs to always be prepared both physically and intellectually. We’ll monitor when he has the chance.
After some tough questions, came a pleasant one
It was appropriate for Virat Kohli to play two classic innings in his style. “The tempo of an inning depends on the circumstances under which we are playing.
We take great satisfaction in being a team that will consider all circumstances. Virat Kohli plays a specific way by the circumstances. He is a skilled enough player to modify his approach to fit the needs of the team, and so far, he has done so well.
Rohit Sharma given the aggressor role
Rathour rejected the idea of any such deliberate designations. He stated: “Each player has a unique batting approach. Rahul and Rohit each have a unique approach to starting their innings. When they adapted to one other’s forms, they formed successful partnerships. They excel at doing that. Rahul might act as the aggressor if he is hitting the ball well on a particular day. As a hitting unit, our goal is to score as many runs as possible.”
Fans can continue to argue over whether Pant should replace “finisher” Dinesh Karthik and whether Axar Patel or Yuzvendra Chahal should play in the second spinner position as the batting coach discusses the horses for a course approach to selecting the starting XI to face the Proteas.
