Happy Birthday Ian Chappell

Today the former Australian captain and well-known cricket commentator Ian Chappell turn 79.

Early Life

Australian cricketer Ian Michael Chappell, who was born on September 26, 1943, represented both South Australia and Australia, between 1971 to 1975, the gutsy and brave Ian Chappell assumed leadership of the Australian team for the first time after Bill Lawry stepped down as captain.

Chappell is a right-handed middle-order batsman, and spinner who hails from a family of cricket players his grandfather and brother both played for Australia, where he had a rocky debut in international play.

Ashes phase

In his debut Ashes series in 1968, Chappell scored considerably in each match, even those against county sides. In the Ashes series, Ian had regarded as the most tenacious Australian player and led all Australian batsmen in runs scored.

Captaincy

When Australia was trailing the Ashes series 0-1 in 1971, Chappell succeeded Bill Lawry as captain of the Australian squad. From 1971 through 1975, he served as captain of Australia, during which time they never lost a series. Under his leadership, Australia successfully defended the Ashes in 1974–75, and the country also advanced to the final match of the first Cricket World Cup, held in England.

Second Half of his life

Usually he is described by John Arlott as “a cricketer of effect more than grace.” At the batting crease. He was a lively presence where he used to constantly adjusting his gear and attire. Also tapping his bat restlessly while batting. He mostly spent countless hours in lessons as a youth, he bases his game on a solid defense.

Chappell began a new job after a successful career in cricket by taking the microphone and lightly describing cricket matches. The commentator put an end to his career in commentary as well, and he is now relishing life in Australia.

Let’s celebrate Ian Chappell’s birthday by wishing him a happy birthday, and sending him our best wishes for the future.
