Alex Carey is the first Australian wicketkeeper to reach the century mark in a Test, Since 2013

A century from wicketkeeper Alex Carey, a double century from David Warner, three half-centuries from Steven Smith, and Head, Cameron Green has guided Australia to a massive first-innings advantage of 386 on the third day of the second test against South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Resuming Australia declared Wednesday on 575-8 after reaching 386-3 in response to South Africa’s 189 in their opening innings.

Current Situation AUS vs SA 2nd Test Match

South Africa will be content to take a break, even if it is just for a few periods. Under overcast skies, they were put to the test by the new ball; although Elgar’s dismissal was relatively soft, the ball occasionally swung and hooped, making batting difficult.

Australian Batsman showed why they are the best team

Carey blasted 13 boundaries in his 111 runs, giving Australia its first test century. Carey and Cameron Green (51 not out), who both had fractured fingers, appeared at ease against the short ball and shared a century stand for the eighth wicket.

Wednesday saw a great start for South Africa as explosive pace bowler Anders Nortje struck twice in the third over of the day, dismissing David Warner (200) and Travis Head (51) in quick succession.

When the fourth wicket fell, Warner, who had left because of leg cramps on Tuesday after scoring a double century, came back. However, he only lasted one delivery, playing all around a full toss that crashed onto his stumps via his back pad at 395-5.

AUS vs SA: First Australian wicketkeeper to reach the century mark in a Test, Since 2013

Since 2013, Carey is the first Australian goalkeeper to score a century in a Test match. The previous Test tonne by an Australian gloveman came from Brad Haddin. Who scored 118 against England in the 2013 Adelaide Test. Overall, it was an Australian goalkeeper’s fourth Test century since 2011.

Carey, who played in his first Test in December of last year, has scored 633 runs in 14 games. While the keeper’s average in whites is 39.56, his strike rate is slightly higher at 58. The 31-year-old has three fifties in the format in addition to a century. Carey’s sixth century in First-Class cricket occurred at the same time.
