AUS vs ENG 2nd ODI: Australia Beat England by 72 Runs to Clinch Series

AUS vs ENG 2nd ODI: In the 2nd ODI between Australia and England, the hosts emerged winners again, sealing the series. Australia scored a fighting total of 280 in the first innings. England collapsed on 208 losing the match by 72 runs.

AUS vs ENG 2nd ODI: 2nd Innings England’s Failed Chase

England experienced a shocking collapse, losing 7 of 52. They appeared to be riding about with Vince and Billings, who were both driving 1950s. But Vince’s unnecessary plod pushed the entire inning into a tailspin. From that point on, Zampa bowled superbly, ending with four wickets as the game changed dramatically.

In a nasty first over, Starc struck twice to start the damage, and he returned to finish it off with two more. Today’s pitch wasn’t the simplest for strokeplay. After a competent inning from Smith and fifty-plus scores from Labuschagne and Marsh, Australia reached 280. It appeared to be a good score, but Billings and Vince initially worried the hosts before England collapsed later.

AUS vs ENG 2nd ODI: 1st Innings

On a sluggish ground in Sydney, Australia scored a highly competitive goal. When the ball goes softer, runs are difficult to come by, and towards the finish, when England utilized their cutters and discovered some reverse swing as well to draw things back, they struggled to get big hits away.

However, it did not seem like going on 280 will be as simple as it was in Adelaide. Thanks to the efforts of Smith, Labuschagne, and Marsh—Smith anchored the innings, while the latter two played more freely around him—Australia was able to reach that score. If not for Adil Rashid’s spell, during which he took three wickets, they appeared to be headed for a higher total. Woakes and Willey then provided a strong finish.

AUS vs ENG 2nd ODI: What Captains Said

Josh Hazlewood, Winning Australia Captain

It looks easy to bat on when a partnership is going. But only a wicket away from causing a collapse on such a pitch. Very happy with 280. It’s good fun having captaincy. WIll obviously hand it back to Pat for the last game. Will see what Melbourne dishes out. He said he’s back (Smith). Summer looks good for him.

Moeen Ali, Losing England Captain

Were in a good position with the bat but we lost wickets. Rash bowled well in the middle phase. We pulled it back nicely. The wicket actually got easier to bat on but we lost wickets. It’s just one of those things. They bowled well in that phase. Pressure got to us. If you lose wickets regularly, not going to win many games. Will just try to win (in the third ODI), and get on the flight on a positive note.
