Announcement

The 34-year-old, Anureet Singh, a former Railways, Baroda, Sikkim, and Punjab Kings bowler, announced his retirement from Indian cricket on September 26, 2022, with a poignant statement on social media.

Throughout the 2018–19 and 2019–20 seasons, he also played for the Railways and Baroda. Additionally, he has participated in the lucrative Indian Premier League.

Early Life

In 2008, against Karnataka, the right-arm bowler made his FC cricket debut for Railways. He later played for Baroda and Sikkim as well. He claimed 64 wickets in T20 cricket, 85 List  A victims and 249 FC wickets.

Statement

Anureet Singh on Monday night announced that we will be hanging his boots from the game of cricket. He released a statement announcing this news to his fans.

The statement says

“Since Childhood, I always wanted to be a Cricketer. It has been an incredible cricketing journey since I was 16 years old when I joined Subhania Cricket Club based in Delhi. It was just like dream coming true while I got an opportunity to play for Indian Railways in the Ranji Trophy game against Karnataka during Indian Domestic Season 2008.”

He then concluded by saying “I would like to thank my captain & mentor Sanjay Bangar (Sanju Bhaiyya, Abhay Sharma Sir & Murali Karthik (Katy Bhaiyya), my coaches Radhe Shyam Sharma Sir, Devinder Bisht Sir, Rajan Sachdeva Sir for guiding & mentoring me which I feel really played a vital role not only in my cricketing career but also in the personal life as that support and guidance helped me in becoming a type of person I am today.”

Although he didn’t start off with a tones of wickets his greatest season total until 2013–14 was 21 wickets. His unwavering pursuit on uncooperative surfaces earned him a deal with Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2009 IPL. After three matches, he found himself on the outside looking in for five years before being drafted by Kings XI Punjab in 2014.

Between his two IPL seasons, Anureet the bowler developed his performance in the 2013–14 Ranji Trophy season, when he finished second in wickets with 44, making the selectors take note. He was given a position in the India A team for the tour of Australia and the Rest of the India squad for the Irani Cup because of his achievements.

He made an impression bowling yorkers in the final overs for Kings XI Punjab. In the Champions League T20 in 2014. And he played frequently for the team the following IPL season. Before the 2016 IPL, Kings XI decided to keep Anureet on staff.

Last Match

In March 2021, Sikkim played against Uttarakhand in their final domestic match. On September 26, 2022, he announced his retirement from Indian cricket on Instagram.
