Shami’s Return to ODIs: A Key Step for Champions Trophy 2025 Spot

Will Mohammed Shami Play In the ICC Champions Trophy 2025?

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to start on February 19, 2025. The tournament is set to return after an eight-year gap, which promises to add an element to thrill to this tournament. While the official Indian squad has yet to be announced, one burning question remains unanswered, Will Mohammed Shami Play In the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Mohammed Shami’s 2024 Year

After mostly a year off the field, Mohammed Shami made a strong return to cricket in the later part of 2024, bowling 43.2 overs and taking 7 wickets for Bengal in a match against Madhya Pradesh. He was later named in Bengal’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy squad, playing all nine matches and picking up 11 wickets. Shami’s recent performances, including an 8-over spell with a wicket in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, have set a stronger case for his return to the Indian squad for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

His impressive World Cup performance in 2023, along with his solid domestic form, has reignited the hopes of his comeback, especially as India faces concerns about the fitness issues of India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Despite initial setbacks, including a knee injury that prevented him from joining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy squad, Shami remains a strong contender to play a key role in India’s pace attack for the prestigious tournament in Dubai.

Mohammed Shami Inclusion’s in the ICC Champions Trophy Squad

Mohammed Shami’s strong performances in domestic cricket, including the Syed Mushtaq Ali and Vijay Hazare Trophies, have cemented his chances for contention in India’s white-ball series against England in January 2025. This series will offer him a chance to prove his fitness and form ahead of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

With Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness still uncertain since the Sydney test, Shami could play a major role in India’s pace attack, potentially securing a spot in the Champions Trophy squad alongside Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh.
