AUS vs NZ Day 2 – Australia dominates New Zealand
The matchday started with S. Smith and T. Head at the crease. Smith was caught at 284 off N. Wagner’s who continued his excellent bowling display on the second day. Smith played good innings of 82.
After Australia’s Test cricket captain and wicket-keeper, Tim Paine, came to the crease, he and Travis Head batting very well to put on a partnership of 150 runs in 44 overs and made the Australian scoreboard comfortable at 400 plus runs. T. Head played a classy inning to complete a ton. He got out after scoring 114 runs. Head was the highest run-getter among all Australian batsmen in the first innings.
James Pattinson’s Magic
James Pattinson played a finisher’s role in the Australia squad today, with 2 fours in 11 balls to score an unbeaten 14.
Australia completed their first innings at a score of 467 in 155.1 overs. After Paine’s wicket at 434, all the remaining batsman together were able to hit only 33 runs.
Wagner showed his terrific bowling on the second day, AUS vs NZ
N. Wagner once again picked up the big wickets of Steve Smith, T. Head, and T. Paine. He also troubled Australian openers. Wagner took 4 Aussie wickets in the first innings of the first Test between Australia and New Zealand.
Tim Southee picked up 3 wickets while Colin de Grandhome was unlucky to bag any scalps on day 2.
NZ opening batsmen Tom Blundell (15) got out early off Pat Cummins bowling. New Zealand skipper K. Willamson (9) also got out without hitting a double-digit score. Both P. Cummins and J. Pattinson picked 1 wicket each.
Latham and Taylor stayed at the crease with the NZ team score at 44-2 in 18 overs. It remains to be seen how New Zealand will hope to bounce back on day 3 and show their batting prowess against the dangerous Australian bowling attack.
