With 6 consecutive semi-final entries during the first six seasons, Stars maintain a reputation of being the tough team in the competition.
Things changed during the seventh season and they finished at last, i.e eighth spot.
But they bounced back strongly and played upto their reputation, in the next two seasons, having finished runners-up in both the seasons.
Their performance, however, during the last two seasons, saw a big drop, as they ended the event at seventh and sixth place, and right before the league the injury issue of their star skipper will also be a headache.

Melbourne Stars Strengths
Adam Zampa
Adam Zampa, the captain of the Melbourne Stars, is their greatest asset for the Stars. With the ball, he has the ability to get big wickets, and he also has great fielding skills.
Since joining the Stars in fifth BBL season, the leg spinner has refined his skill set.
Zampa, who has represented his country 119 times in ODIs and 72 times in T20 international games, has long been considered Australia’s best white ball spinner.
Zampa is the Stars’ all-time leading wicket-taker with 82 career wickets and will likely to play his 100th BBL game this season.
Bowling department is the another strong area of Team Melbourne Stars
There fast bowlers Trent Boult and Nathan Coulter-Nile, having proved their mettle many times before, can be lethal bowling combination for the Melbourne Stars this season.
Boult will be undoubtedly the key bowler for the Stars. He is an experienced and a skilful bowler, who can bowl pretty well during powerplay and in the death overs too. His T20I bowling economy is 7.86, having taken 2 four-wicket hauls in T20 Internationals.
Nathan Coulter-Nile, who already bagged 34 wickets in 28 games in his T20I career so far will surely be the one of the leading fast-bowlers for Melbourne Stars.
While the leading wicket taker for MS is the biggest strength of the team we’ve already discussed.
Melbourne Stars Weaknesses
Lack of Experience
A lack of experience in the side is the major weakness of the side in the mega event. There is no Glenn Maxwell, and not many international players on the team will rely.
Marcus Stoinis is there as an all-rounder, he plays with good strike-rate too, but sometimes unable to convert his starts.
Dependency on last year’s performer
Joe Clarke, who was one of the best performers for Melbourne Stars with the bat, having scored 419 runs off 13 games at a strike-rate of over 151, will most likely to play on similar lines, but a dependency on one or batters will harm Melbourne chances to win the competition.
You can’t really say how the openers will perform, and if the team wants to win the tournament, its core players will unquestionably need to take on the role of the teams defence.
Fans will need to control their emotions because the team is somewhat young and playing against the greatest teams will be difficult. However, you can’t overlook the Melbourne Stars because they have succeeded in the past and they may succeed again this season.
