Sri Lankan Skipper Shanaka reflects on the loss against Afghanistan

Sri Lanka faced a heavy defeat on Saturday night after the Afghanistan bowlers punctured the batting line-up of Sri Lanka and the Lankan lions were heading down in the opening match of the Asia Cup 2022.

Sri Lanka is not an ordinary team, they have skilled players who can outstand any opposition on any given day but Saturday night was a nightmare, especially for the Sri Lankan batsman. Fans were shocked to see the batting performance put up by the Lankan lions.

Dasun Shanaka on the loss against Afghanistan

Fazalhaq Farooqi’s swing bowling caused all the problems for the Lankan Batsman. After the match, the Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka reflects back on the loss saying “Losing is a normal thing, but we’re too good a team to lose by this kind of margin. They bowled well with the new ball, but we have no excuses.”

The Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka was asked the reason why the batsman are unable to make a good partnership he said that “We have to ask our batters whether they were prepared, it was a really good pitch. It was the first two overs that changed the whole situation. It’s been a concern over the past two years that we haven’t had partnerships upfront. That’s where we should be concerned.”

He went on to say that “When you lose two wickets in the first over, and four inside the power play (in 7.2 overs), it’s really hard to get back into the game, Losing is a normal thing, but we’re too good a team to lose by this kind of margin. They bowled really well with the new ball, but we have no excuses. You’ve got to be able to bat in any conditions.”

The skipper Dasun Shanaka is happy with the bowling unit but is only concerned with the batting order, he feels that the players will surely come back to their natural form, it’s just that sometimes things don’t happen the way we want and we have to accept that fact.

The Skipper Dasun Shanaka will surely look to come back stronger and harder in their second match where they will face Bangladesh on 1st September in Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, UAE.
