PAK vs SL Match Summary: In the final match of Super 4 between Srilanka and Pakistan, we saw Srilanka emerging as winners as they beat the mighty Babar Azam team by 5 wickets with 18 balls remaining.
The team was chasing a small total of 122 but since it was against a fiery bowling attack, we could have expected anything. But there wasn’t much climax as opener Nissanka ensured he put up at one end of the pitch and keep scoring even if the other end had batters changing.
The Super 4 stage is concluded, and Sri Lanka is the only side to have won all three games on their way to the 2022 Asia Cup final. Pakistan simply did not have enough runs on the board today, and despite three early SL wickets, their bowlers were unable to secure a victory. The man at the non-end striker at the conclusion of the game who blocked Pakistan’s challenge was Pathum Nissanka, who hit a superb 48-ball 55 to take Sri Lanka home with a smile.
Sri Lanka is one team that understands that every game is different. They had lost to Afghanistan in their first match, only to overcome them in the Super 4 stage. Pakistan lost to them today, but if Sri Lanka fails to perform well on Sunday, today’s triumph will be meaningless. Pakistan would be wise to remember that this was only a dress rehearsal.
Pakistan put on a spirited bowling display, but it was evident that their two new bowlers, Hasan Ali and Usman Qadir, were still getting their bearings. They were the only two bowlers to average more than eight per over, which is extremely pricey while chasing just 122. A useful learning experience for both teams before their upcoming meeting for the crucial final.
The losing captain Babar Azam talked about the team’s loss as he said, “We played well in both games, but the batting has not been up to the mark. But surely impressed with our fast bowlers, Pakistan has always produced good pacers – the way Hasan made a comeback today was good. This was definitely a good learning experience, we will sit back and analyze this game, and see where we can improve for Sunday.”
The winning captain and birthday boy Dasun Shanaka was as jubilant as ever as he said, “Always acceptable these kind of results. The combination we have with the left-arm fast bowlers, the leg spinners – the variation we have is amazing. I think the extras were a concern in this game, and the lines the fast bowlers bowled. These are areas we can improve, if we could get early wickets in the next game that will be good.”
