In what could be considered as one of the breath-taking matches ever happened in the history of Asia Cup 2022 at the Super 4 level of the series, Sri Lanka registered a spectacular win against India held at Dubai International Stadium, on Tuesday. Here in this article, we have discussed India Vs Sri Lanka Match Summary in detail.

Despite, some of the few important contributions by the players from Team India, the hosts showcased a brilliant game of cricket by leveraging the occasions at right time with a right pace and knock.

After winning the toss, Sri Lanka invited India to bat first. In the first innings, the men in blue lost two quick wickets with the key opener, KL Rahul, taking pavilion route in the second over of the innings. He scored just 6 runs off 7 balls.

The former Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, who was reasonably performing well, of late, gave away his wicket for a duck. However, Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, launched a good fight against Lankans. He scored 72 runs off 41 balls by hitting four sixes and five fours. Surya Kumar Yadav, who joined the skipper, made a stable approach helping the team to build a crucial partnership of 97 runs.

The middle-order batsmen like Hardik Pandya and Rishab Pant failed in their batting performance which helped Sri Lanka to confine the defenders for only 173 runs for the loss of eight wickets.

In the second innings, Sri Lanka began with an attacking batting style. The openers, Pathum Nissanka (52) and Kusal Mendis (57), kept the momentum high since the beginning. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh couldn’t curtail the batsmen from hitting big shots during the Powerplay overs.

Sri Lanka lost its first wicket in the 12th over after scoring 97 runs. The spinners, Yuzvendra Chahal and R Ashwin contributed well by plucking four wickets at the crucial stage of the match. After losing four wickets, it was the Sri Lankan skipper, Danuka Shanaka, and the hitter, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who completed the match by striking at the Indian bowlers and slowly building a partnership of 64 runs off 34 balls.

During the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma said the team is trying to identify the pros and cons of having three pacers and two spinners in the side. “We have played with three seamers and have moved to four seamers with Hardik coming back with him playing the fourth seamer. That’s the combination we wanted,” he said adding that his preparation would be for all the challenges going up to the World Cup.

Sri Lankan Captain Dasun Shanaka was given the Player of the Match award for his 33-run unbeaten cameo, apart from his two wickets contribution. “The bowler bowled well in patches. Credit to Dilshan, Theekshana and Chamika – they bowled well in this game. The Indians came hard at us but we managed to restrict them well under 180. We had a good discussion after the first game,” he said.
