Asia Cup 2022 Host: As the dilemma on whether Sri Lanka would be hosting Asia Cup for the year 2022, there comes clarity after Sri Lanka Cricket board officials reportedly informed Asian Cricket Council about their inability to organize the big event.
According to a news report on the Sportstar website, the SLC board informed that it will not be in a position to host the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup T20. The board sighted the reasons as the economic and political crisis in the country.
Unfortunately, the SLC shared its views after postponing the third edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) due to the ongoing stated crisis issues in the island country.
“Sri Lankan cricket has conveyed that due to the existing political and economic situation in their country especially where foreign exchange is concerned it is not an ideal situation for them to host such a mega-event of six teams on the island,” the website quoted an ACC source as saying.
Also, the board expressed that it would like to host the tournament in the UAE or some other country. “UAE is not the final replacement venue, it could be some other country, even India as the ACC, Sri Lanka cricket will first have to talk with Emirates Cricket Board officials to get final approval for the event,” the website has been told.
Given the Asia Cup is slated to be held in August and September this year before the T20 World Cup in Australia, the ACC is likely to make an announcement in the next few days, the website mentioned.
Earlier, there were few reports on the ACC reportedly informing Bangladesh Cricket to be ready to host the upcoming Asia Cup 2022. Bangladesh previously hosted the Asia Cup in 2016 and ICC T20 World Cup in 2014. The upcoming Asia Cup is the 15th edition of the tournament, with India being the no.1 team with the most number of wins (7), while Sri Lanka at 2 with five wins.
It may be recalled here that, the ACC has not yet released the precise schedule for the 2022 Asia Cup (ACC). The competition, however, will begin with the first game on August 27. On September 11th, the final will be held. During the event, a total of 13 matches will be played.
Asia Cup 2022 Venues:
R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele, Galle International Stadium in Galle, Dambulla International Stadium, and Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium will be among the venues that will host all of the games because Sri Lanka is hosting the tournament.
