Annabel Sutherland Makes History as Australia Capitalizes on England’s Mistakes

AU-W vs EN-W 2nd Day Highlights of Women’s Ashes, One-off test

The Australian side started their innings with 56-1, as they chased the 171-run target. Phoebe Litchfield and Annabel Sutherland started the innings, aiming to add advantage to the total. Here are the AU-W vs EN-W 2nd Day Highlights of Women’s Ashes, a One-off test.

Australia’s Domination

Although Phoebe had shown her strong resilience to England bowling, she was dismissed for 45 off 127 balls, but her fellow batter Annabel went on to create history with her knock. She was stuck on the pitch for 84 overs and scored 163 off 258 balls, unfortunately, she was dismissed by Ryana MacDonald-Gay in the 90th over. Annabel however, became the first woman to score a test century at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Aussie Captain Alyssa Healy with her 34 runs off 68 balls, with Beth Mooney’s 98 not out to be continued tomorrow. All the other decent scores combined with the high scores resulted in Australia reaching a total of 422/5 at 120 overs.

England’s Unfortunate Day

England’s unfortunate day with their poor fielding and missed catching opportunities haunted them throughout the second day of their only Ashes Test match against Australia at the MCG. Despite having built some pressure with the ball, England’s sloppy field, including missed long balls that slipped through fielders’ hands, allowed Australia to extend their advantage. By the end of the day, Australia had built a commanding lead of over 250 runs, beyond England’s first-innings total of 170.

Eight dropped catches stood out as the most embarrassing moments in the match. Annabel Sutherland was dropped early on, with a potential game-changing catch missed. Other missed chances followed, including several from wicketkeeper Amy Jones. Despite these errors, Mooney went on to score 98 not out. Misjudged attempts continued, with two catches from Ecclestone and Filer slipping through their hands, adding to England’s growing frustration.
