It was nothing sort of new thing for the Australian side to crush their opponent on their soil and the latest West Indies visit is one of them few.
West Indies, the eighth-ranked Test squad in the world, was easily defeated by Australia, the top-ranked Test team, in both of the test matches.
With 58 victories out of the 116 tests played between them so far, the host has an outstanding record against the Windies. Australia’s supremacy has grown more obvious in recent years; the West Indies last defeated Australia in a Test match in Antigua in May 2003, when it recorded the highest-ever run-chase success rate in a Test match.
However, given their present troubles, everyone is still curious as to whether the West Indies have ever won a test series or even won a game in Australia?
Well, the West Indies team from the late 1970s to the early 1990s was far too strong and had numerous victories against Australia; as a result, they played 18 Tests out of 68 and lost 39 times in Australia.
West Indies haven’t triumphed in a Test on Australian soil in 25 last years.
In February 1997, when West Indies defeated Australia by 10 wickets at Perth was the Caribbean’s last test victory in Australia.
Since then, Australia has won 14 of the 16 home Test matches it has played against the West Indies, drawing two, over the course of West Indies four trips.
Has West Indies ever won a test series in Australia?
The last time West Indies triumphed in a Test series in Australia was in 1992/93.
West Indies tour of Australia 2022
West Indies started the tour with two-match test series right before the T20 World Cup in Australia, in which they faced a 2-0 loss, but that series was not a one-sided, though!
Right after the World Cup got over, West Indies played two warm-up games before the 2-match test series.
Started on November 30, the Australian batters displayed the pure dominance while batting in the first innings of the first test and recorded 598 runs for the first innings,
In reply, West Indies were only able to score 283 and trapped in follow-on.
Australian team, however decide to set a target for them instead of asking them to bat again.
The hosts set a target of 498 in front of West Indies, which they failed to chase and bowled out for 333 to hand-over a 164-run victory to Australia.
Australia repeated the same story in the second test, having won the toss and posted another 500 on board.
This time, Australia bowlers, however, bowled out the opposition in much quicker time.
And once again the hosts walked into the crease to set the target instead of allowing the visitor to bat second consecutive innings.
Much like the first test, Australia asked West Indies to score 497 to win, but West Indies side were bundled out in pressure and bowled out for just 77.
This was Australia’s fourth biggest victory in test cricket.
562-run win over England in 1934, victory by 530 runs against South Africa in 1911, and a 491-run win over Pakistan in 20114, are Australia’s top three biggest victories in test cricket.
