Trevor Bayliss replaces Anil Kumble as Punjab Kings head coach

Punjab Kings on Friday announced Trevor Bayliss as their head coach for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. Here in this article, we have discussed on Punjab Kings head coach for IPL 2023.

Bayliss will replace the legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble as the latter failed to guide the Punjab Kings into the playoffs during his three-year tenure as head coach, the franchise decided not to renew his contract.

Bayliss will bring his expertise to the table having won the World Cup with England, two IPL titles, and a Big Bash League (BBL) championship with the Sydney Sixers.

He served as the head coach of the English team that captured the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.

“I’m honoured to be given the Head Coach’s role with the Punjab Kings. A foundation franchise with an appetite for success. I look forward to working with a talented squad of players determined to compete for silverware,” said Bayliss in a statement issued by Punjab Kings.

Punjab Kings shared the news on social media platforms and wrote, “Here’s wishing a very warm welcome to our new Head Coach, Trevor Bayliss. 😍

Here’s looking forward to a successful partnership!

The Punjab franchise, who had a strong start to its 2008 season and made the playoffs in just its first year, lost its way after that and frequently finished in the fifth or sixth place.

The only time Punjab has made it to the final was in 2014. It was a memorable season for Punjab fans because the George Bailey-led team finished first in the league stage, defeated CSK in a qualifier 1, and advanced right away to the finals. However, despite scoring 199 runs in 20 overs, they were defeated by Kolkata Knight Riders by three wickets.

In the previous four IPL seasons, Punjab Kings came in sixth place. After KL Rahul stepped down as captain for this year’s competition, Mayank Agarwal assumed control, however his batting performance fell short of expectations.

Only Mayank and Arshdeep Singh were the players franchise retained ahead of the 15th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL 2022).
