Australia crush South Africa by 6 wickets, take 1-0 lead in three-match series

Skipper Pat Cummins starred with a five-wicket haul as Australia cruised to a comprehensive 6-wicket win over South Africa in the first test of the three-match series in just a second day of the game at The Gabba on Sunday. Let us look at AUS Vs SA 1st Test Highlights in detail.

The bowlers dominated test match saw the table-toppers of the ICC Test Championship, Australia claimed the victory and stayed on top and also took a 1-0 lead in the series.

The captain of the home side, after taking 2 wickets in the first, and a fifer in second innings, broke the back of visitors and handed his side a resounding win.

No one ever imagined the first test of the highly anticipated will end in just a son of 2 days, but it is what it is.

After inviting to bat, Australian fast bowlers took the control on the game very early and removed 4 of visitor’s top batters under 30 runs.

A 98-run partnership between Temba Bavuma and Kyle Verreynne, however, helped the side to reach 125, but as soon as Bavuma left the crease after scoring 38, South Africa faced yet another collapse and bundled out for just 152 runs.

The wicket-keeper batter Verreynne (64) scored the most runs for his side.

Australian fast bowlers bagged 7 wickets out of 10, while 3 was claimed by Nathan Lyon.

Australia 1st innings

It was not a match for Australian batters too, as much like the Australian bowlers, the visitors bowling department also gripped the game and allowed only 218 runs on board.

Still, Australia managed to take a minor 66-run lead.

Travis Head playing an excellent but he missed his chance to score a century by 8 runs during first innings.

South Africa all out for 99

After a quick two innings for both sides, time then came to limit the under the triple-digit mark.

Much like the first innings, the top-order of South Africa collapsed early, courtesy Cummins and Starc.

Mitchell Starc in the process recorded a milestone, as after taking a wicket of Rassie van der Dussen he completed a record of claiming 300 test wickets, and became the seventh overall Australian bowler after Shane Warne (708), Glenn McGrath (563), Nathan Lyon (454), Dennis Lilliee (355), Mitchell Johnson (313), and Brett Lee (310) to achieve this feat.

While Pat Cummins was also in a mood to create some record as he recorded his 8th five-wicket haul during the second innings and courtesy of Australian bowlers South Africa failed to touch even the 100-run mark and bowled out for just 99.

With 34 was the target to chase, it was like a cake walk for the Aussies, but they have to struggle hard for it, as they lost their 4 batters in the process, but at the end claimed a success and won the first test by 6 wickets.
