The Lankan Lions had a disappointing visit, losing the three-match T20I series 0-3, then losing the ODI series 0-2, with the last match in Bristol being waived off. During the trip, 3 players — Sri Lankan vice-captain Kusal Mendis, wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella, and batsman Danushka Gunathilaka – were caught breaking the bio-bubble at a marketplace late night, as they were captured by a Durham location.

Following this, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) quickly ordered all of the guilty individuals to return to Sri Lanka, severely weakening the team.

Seven members and few staff members of England’s ODI team tested positive for the virus just days after Sri Lanka’s tour ended, forcing England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to name a new 18-man squad for the ODI series against Pakistan, which began on July 8.

SL batting coach Grant Flower tested positive . Grant Flower’s illness comes only days prior to the team’s series against Team India, which starts on July 13th in Colombo with the opening ODI. Furthermore, it has been verified that the work would have no impact on the tour.

“Immediately upon identification, Flower was isolated from the rest of the team members who are undergoing quarantine following their return from England,” the board said.

“We have to find out how Flower got infected, and also which variant of the virus he has been infected with,” said a member of Sri Lanka’s medical staff.

The series between the 2 Teams, will feature 6 white-ball games, with the 3 ODIs being followed by as many T20Is, all of which will be played in Colombo to maintain safety protocols in these unusual (COVID) times.

Off-field issues have surrounded the Sri Lankan cricket establishment, with a number of players upset with the new form of performance reviews that determines their yearly contract allotment.

Players have been signing Tours Contracts before each series since October of last year when the contracts formal duration expired. In a recent development, 29 members of the shortlist have accepted the offer and made contracts for the India tour, with Angelo Mathews withdrawing due to some personal reasons.
