But a medal insight has brought the nation a lot of joy and relief.

Pre-cap of Sindhu’s Tokyo journey:

There was a lot of expectations surrounding Sindhu took just 41 minutes to oust Mia Blichfeldt in the pre-quarters to set up a date with world number 4 Akane Yamaguchi. Yamaguchi herself was coming off wins in all 3 games in straight sets.

The first set:

It was going to be a one-tough game with both players looking in red hot form. Yamaguchi took an all-important lead in the first game (5-3) and Indian fans were worried. But Sindhu held her own and engaged in long rallies to take the lead first time at 7-6. She soon widened the lead to 3 points (10-7). Sindhu extended her domination in the first game leading 14-10. Yamaguchi was finding it tough to counter Sindhu. Sindhu finished the set off in a professional fashion and won the set 21-13.

The all-important second set:

The 2016 Rio silver-medalist soon went on to dominate 2nd set as well. She raced to a 10-5 lead. It was looking all too easy for Sindhu. At 14-8, she looked all set for a semifinal berth. Her dominance was there for everyone to see. Indian hopes were brimming again.

But that is when Yamaguchi staged a stunning comeback. She drew level with Sindhu at 14-14. Yamaguchi took the all-important lead with the game poised at 19-18. Sindhu then displayed her champion quality by roaring back strongly. She went on to win the game 22-20. Sindhu has set up a semifinal date with Tai Tzu Ying (Taipei). No matter what the result, Superstar Sindhu has given the nation hope of another Olympic medal.
