T20 WC- Big Concern For Me Is India’s Bowling: Sanjay Manjrekar

Team India’s T20 World Cup 2021 campaign hasn’t gotten off to a good start, as they were defeated by Pakistan as a result of 10-wickets in their opening match. This defeat also ended India’s historic winning streak over their arch-rivals. Despite the Indian batsmen performing well to achieve 151/7 although batting first on a difficult Dubai pitch, their bowling unit let them short. Here is all about what Sanjay Manjrekar Speaks On India’s Bowling.

As a result of the Men in Blue’s inability to take even one wicket, several doubts were voiced about their bowling assault. Ravindra Jadeja and Varun Chakravarthy came into the game as spinners, but none could challenge Pakistan starters Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. India has 2 extra spin-bowling alternatives with Ravichandran Ashwin and Rahul Chahar. Unfortunately, none of them would be very good at getting wickets in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).

As a result, it will be curious to observe what modifications India makes to their bowling unit for their next match versus New Zealand. Focusing on the subject, former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar believes that bowling would continue to be an issue for India until spinners begin to think regarding wickets. He also stated that players like Ashwin and Jadeja are not eager to gain wickets. Alternatively, they want to control the scoring rate.

Couple of defeats mean all chances of winning the World Cup are down the drain: Manjrekar

“Ashwin, like Jadeja, is not a wicket-taker. Both are more focused on the economy than wickets. I believe in T20s, the spinners’ job is to get wickets and be the game-changer in the middle,” Manjrekar said in an Interaction.

“The big concern for me is India’s bowling. I know there is merit in the thought that you must back your players after their failures, especially in T20s, but this is easier to do when you are playing a long season of the IPL and not when a couple of defeats mean all chances of winning the World Cup are down the drain,” he added.

Manjrekar went on to say Jadeja isn’t one of those players who can usually fulfill his four-over limit in T20 matches. “Jadeja can be your third spinner who will bowl a few overs and not someone you depend on to bowl his full quota of four overs. He has done that only a little more than 50% of the times in T20Is, and he certainly can’t be one of your five bowling options,” he opined.
