T20 WC- Bhuvi, Hardik Are In The Team Based On Reputation: Dilip

The Indian cricket lineup was crushed by Pakistan in the opening game of the T20 World Cup in 2021. Virat Kohli & Co. were hammered by Pakistan by ten wickets to begin their journey in the mega event on a strong note, Former Indian cricketer Dilip Doshi has now shared his opinion on India’s setback in their first encounter. Doshi stated that Pakistan dominated the Indian cricket squad. The 73-year-old further mentioned that the Indian top order has suffered facing left-arm pace bowlers on regular spells.

Doshi further stated that, other than Virat Kohli, the other batsmen had awkward postures. Doshi also believes the Indian batters missed effort and common sense.

I would attribute the failure to a lack of application and common sense: Dilip Doshi

We were completely outplayed by Pakistan. They looked a far better side on that particular day. We have to understand why we weren’t effective. Our top-order batters have struggled regularly against left-arm pacers bowling over the wicket over the past few years. The techniques of our batters, barring Virat, were faulty. I would attribute the failure to a lack of application and common sense on the part of our batters,” said Dilip Doshi.

Dilip Doshi further mentioned that individuals like Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have not remained committed to their capabilities and are probably playing by considering their past reputation. Doshi also referred to Ravichandran Ashwin as the finest spinner in the world right now, concluding that the Virat Kohli-led Indian team cannot afford to leave a player like Ashwin’s skill out of the playing XI.

It’s true that some people are playing based on their past reputation. Players like Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar haven’t performed to their full potential for some time now. Ravichandran Ashwin should play every game because he’s the world’s best spinner at present. You cannot afford to drop him,” concluded Dilip Doshi.

India’s upcoming T20 World Cup match will be against New Zealand on October 31, 2021.
