Asia Cup 2025: Teams who have the chance of reaching the finals

Which teams will play the final match of Asia Cup 2025?

Asia Cup is in the final week of its season, with four teams competing in the super four round, and they will compete against each other in the quest to reach the final and fight for the title. Here’s a look at which teams will play the final match of Asia Cup 2025?

Super Four Qualifiers: The Path to Glory

The 2025 Asia Cup, hosted in the UAE from September 9 to 28, featured eight teams in T20 format. After group stages, India topped Group A with wins over UAE and Oman, while Pakistan secured second via a victory against UAE.

In Group B, Sri Lanka dominated with an unbeaten run, and Bangladesh edged Afghanistan on net run rate after defeating Hong Kong. These four India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh now play three round-robin matches each in Super Four. Top two on points (or NRR tiebreaker) advance to the September 28 final at Dubai International Stadium.

India’s Dominance: Defending Champs Lead the Charge

As 2023 winners, India under Suryakumar Yadav started the Super Four strongly, beating Pakistan by 6 wickets on September 21 in Dubai chasing 172 with Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 75 and Hardik Pandya’s finishing. Their spin duo, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, restricted Pakistan to 171/5.

With two wins already in groups, India’s balanced attack and batting depth position them atop standings with 4 points. Upcoming games against Bangladesh (September 24) and Sri Lanka (September 26) are crucial, but their +1.5 NRR gives them an edge. A top-two finish seems likely, eyeing back-to-back titles.

Pakistan’s Resilience: Bounce-Back Potential

Pakistan, led by interim captain Salman Ali Agha after Babar Azam’s benching, stunned in groups but faltered in the Super Four opener, losing to India despite Fakhar Zaman’s 60. Shaheen Afridi’s 2/28 kept it close, but middle-order collapse hurt. With 0 points, they face a must-win against Sri Lanka on September 23 in Abu Dhabi, then Bangladesh on September 25. Their pace battery suits UAE pitches, and a revival could see them in the final first since 2018 if they win out and improve NRR from -0.2.

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh: Underdogs’ Fight

Sri Lanka, unbeaten in groups under Wanindu Hasaranga, kicked Super Four with an 8-wicket thrashing of Bangladesh on September 20 bowlers Maheesh Theekshana (3/18) skittled them for 120.

Pathum Nissanka’s 50 sealed chase. With 2 points, they eye the semis spot. Bangladesh, powered by Mustafizur Rahman’s 3/22, lost but showed fight; Litton Das’s 40 top-scored. At 0 points, they need wins over Pakistan and India to surge via superior NRR. Sri Lanka’s spin edge favors them as dark horses.

With India leading, the race tightens finalists emerge from remaining thrillers.
