Women’s Asia Cup Winners: In the world of Sports, Women’s cricket has always been the second option compared to men’s cricket, however, tournaments such as the women’s Asia Cup provide the perfect platform for women to play the highest level of cricket.

The Women’s Asia Cup (ODI’s and T20I) tournament also known as the ACC Women’s Asia Cup, was established in 2004 and was first hosted by Sri Lanka. The first Women’s Asia Cup was played only between India and Sri Lanka. However, the first four editions of the Women’s Asia Cup (2004, 2005, 2006, and 2008) were played as ODI, later in 2012 it was played in the T20 format.

In the Women’s Asia Cup 2004, five matches were played between India and Sri Lanka among them India won all five games and became the first team to win the Women’s Asia Cup.

Entry of Pakistan Team in Women’s Asia Cup

In 2005, the Pakistan team made its appearance in the ACC Women’s Asia Cup which was hosted by Pakistan. While the 2006 edition was hosted by India and in 2008 the tournament was again played in Sri Lanka, All these four editions of women’s Asia Cup ODI matches were won by India.

From 2012 the Women’s Asia Cup was played in a T20 format, where the Indian women’s team won the tournament, the same story repeated in the 2016 edition. After India, Bangladesh became the second team to win the Asia Cup in 2018. However, the 2020 edition was planned in Bangladesh but due to the pandemic, it was rescheduled to 2022.

  • 2004 – India defeated Sri Lanka (ODI Format) in Sri Lanka
  • 2005 – India defeated Sri Lanka (ODI Format) in Karachi, Pakistan
  • 2006 – India  defeated Sri Lanka (ODI Format) in Jaipur, India
  • 2008 – India defeated Sri Lanka (ODI Format) in Sri Lanka
  • 2012 – India defeated Pakistan (T20 Format) in Guangzhou, China
  • 2016 – India defeated Pakistan (T20 Format) in Thailand
  • 2018 – Bangladesh defeated India (T20 Format) in Malaysia
  • 2022 – India defeated Sri Lanka (T20 Format) in Sylhet, Bangladesh

The women’s Asia Cup tournament is one of the biggest and most watched women’s tournaments across the globe, where so far eight editions have been conducted. The Indian Women’s team has been the most dominant force in this competition where they clinched the title seven times, the only other team to win this title is Bangladesh. The Bangla women won the title in 2018 when they defeated India in a historic match in Malaysia.

Now with the 2024 Women’s Asia Cup around the corner, all teams are poised to make an impact. The Indian women’s team will continue to perform at their best and will look to continue their dominance over the Asian teams.
