Will Rohit Sharma retire after Champions Trophy 2025 final?

As India gears up for the 2025 Champions Trophy final against New Zealand, speculation continues to grow about Rohit Sharma’s future in ODI cricket. With the Indian captain now 37 and the next World Cup still two years away, fans and analysts alike are wondering if this could be his final appearance in the format.
Let’s look at Will Rohit Sharma retire after Champions Trophy 2025 final?

Rohit previously stepped away from T20Is after leading India to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Now, speculations suggest that the BCCI has already spoken with him about planning for the team’s future leading up to the 2027 ODI World Cup. Adding fuel to the fire, Rohit was recently seen having lengthy conversations with Virat Kohli and Gill, prompting fans to read between the lines.

However, India’s vice-captain, Shubman Gill, has dismissed any such discussions in the team’s dressing room. Speaking ahead of the summit clash, Gill clarified that there have been “no discussions” with Rohit about his retirement. That said, he did hint that the skipper will “take a call” after the final, leaving room for further speculation.

“All the chatter and the discussion are about winning the match. And what we have to do to win the match. He has not spoken to the team about this or to me. I think Rohit is thinking about winning the final as well. I think he is focusing on winning the Champions Trophy first. I think, once the match gets over tomorrow, he will take a call, but I have not heard of this from anyone in the team.” said Gill said in the pre-match press conference.

India’s journey in the Champions Trophy has had its share of tense moments. In the group-stage clash against New Zealand, the top order crumbled, with Matt Henry and Kyle Jamieson reducing them to 30/3. The collapse was eerily reminiscent of India’s heartbreak in the 2019 World Cup semi-final.

However, the middle order stepped up to rescue the innings, taking India to a competitive total of 249/9—ultimately securing victory.

With the final looming, all eyes are on Rohit. Will he continue leading India, or will he bid farewell to ODI cricket after one last shot at glory? The answer may come after Sunday’s showdown.
