Will Healy replicate Lanning success in WC?

Alyssa Healy is ready to lead the star-studded Australia women’s cricket team in the upcoming edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup, starting October 3.

Six-time T20 World Cup champions Australia will be looking to repeat their magic and defend the title to win the marquee event for the seventh time out of nine.

With Australia being the number 1 ranked T20 side in the world, and is all set to dominate again, the major difference in their journey this time would be the non-existence of their star captain Meg Lanning.

Lanning, who led Australia to their last four T20 World Cup titles has announced her retirement from international cricket in November 2023.

Meg Lanning has won seven World Cups for Australia, five as captain. Australia won four T20 World Cups (2014, 2016, 2020, 2023) and an ODI World Cup in 2022 under Meg Lanning. While the Australian women’s cricket team won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2022 in Meg Lanning’s captaincy.

With such a fantastic record and a reputation as a dominating force in world cricket, Alyssa Healy has a lot of responsibility to maintain Australia’s dominance in cricket.

There is no question regarding Healy’s ability to captain the side in the multi-team ICC event, as she has the experience of leading a star-studded side; whether she can replicate Meg Lanning’s success is something only time will answer.

Australia will start their Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Sri Lanka on October 4. India, Pakistan and New Zealand are the other teams’ part of Australia’s group (Group A) of the T20 WC.
