WI Bowled out for second-lowest total in Test Cricket
West Indies created a surprise unwanted record in the last test of the 3-match test series against Australia, West Indies were bundled up for just 27, their lowest Test total and the second lowest test total in overall test cricket, as Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland dominated the carribean side. Australia’s 176-run victory sealed a 3-0 series sweep, exposing the hosts’ batting failure. Let’s take a look at WI bowled out for second-lowest all-out total in test cricket.
How West Indies Hit an All-Time Low
The West Indies batting in their last innings of the 3rd test was historic for all the wrong reasons. Chasing 204, they crumbled in 14.3 overs, narrowly avoiding the lowest-ever Test total of 26, set by New Zealand in 1955. Mitchell Starc’s fiery opening over set the tone, dismissing John Campbell first ball, followed by Kevlon Anderson and Brandon King, leaving the hosts at 0 for 3. Starc’s record-breaking five-wicket haul in just 15 balls, including his 400th Test wicket, decimated the top order.

Scott Boland’s hat-trick further deepened the misery, removing Justin Greaves, Shamar Joseph, and Jomel Warrican. A misfield allowed West Indies to edge past 26, but Starc’s 6 for 9 ensured their collapse was cemented as one of Test cricket’s most embarrassing moments. Roston Chase called it “heartbreaking” and “embarrassing”, reflecting the team’s batting woes.
Australia’s Dominant Series Sweep
Australia’s pace attack, led by Starc and Boland, overwhelmed the West Indies throughout the series, culminating in a 3-0 whitewash. Despite Shamar Joseph’s heroic 4 for 33 and Alzarri Joseph’s career-best 5 for 27, Australia’s 225 and 121 set a challenging target. Starc’s pink-ball mastery in his 100th Test, coupled with Boland’s hat-trick, ensured a swift end.
Cameron Green’s 42 provided crucial runs, but the bowlers stole the show. Shamar’s 22 wickets in the series were a lone bright spot for West Indies, but Australia’s relentless attack, as Starc and Boland helped Australia start their new WTC cycle 2025-27 with a dominant win.
