Rohit Sharma, who was appointed as skipper of Mumbai Indians during the middle of IPL 6, created history by guiding the MI franchise to their first IPL title, brining in the era of IPL’s greatest captains.

The right-handed batter left all the teams behind then and guided MI to record 5 IPL titles, most at the time (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020).
With Mumbai failing to win any title in the last 3 seasons, management took the decision of handing over the captaincy to Hardik Pandya after trading him from Gujarat Titans.
Interestingly, Pandya started his IPL journey under Rohit Sharma in 2015 and remained in MI camp till 2021 before joining the new franchise Gujarat Titans in 2022 and leading them to title in their first appearance.
Their second outing was also successful as they reached the IPL 2023 final but lost the game against MS Dhoni’s CSK.
Pandya, however, made the tough decision of leaving GT and joined MI to begin the new journey, which did not sit well with the fans.
And then came the day when the newly appointed skipper took the field and Rohit Sharma entered as just a player.
The scenes where Hardik Pandya asked Rohit Sharma to field near the boundary rope not just surprised Rohit but also fans.

The coach of MI also stated that the decision to make Hardik Pandya their skipper is to take extra pressure off from Rohit.
On top of that, Pandya, is a Mumbai Indians boy with good leadership skills.
Rohit Sharma played his first game without being the skipper after 21st April 2013 on Sunday, and he showed signs of his potential with a 29-ball 43.
Mumbai, however, lost their opening game by 6 runs against Pandya’s old franchise, the Gujarat Titans.
