Why Faf du Plessis Is Not Selected For T20 WC
Faf Du Plessis has declared his desire to play for South Africa in the World Cup and he is in excellent form. He has been impressive with Chennai Super Kings and also has scored a century recently in CPL 2021 for St Lucia Kings.
However, we’ve seen the omission of Faf Du Plessis, Chris Morris, and Imran Tahir from the team. Smith said Faf du Plessis is regarded as a free agent as he is no longer in association with Cricket South Africa and it’s not possible to reach an agreement with Du Plessis.
“When you are working with free agents you have to come together. You have to find that balance that works for both the team and the free agents. With Faf in particular we struggled to find that balance,” Smith told.
He also mentioned that they’re considering sign Imran Tahir back. “He’s had a great run and he’s still being successful but we’re very confident in the spin bowlers we have available.” He added.
Faf Du Plessis has announced his retirement from Test Cricket and he is only available for White-ball cricket. Du Plessis’s experience could have been very useful for South Africa as he has taken the game away from opponents on many occasions. He will be next seen playing IPL for Chennai Super Kings against their rivals Mumbai Indians.
