Ashwani Kumar and his road to IPL
The 23-year old debutant for MI hails from Mohali, Ashwani Kumar hailing from an humble farming family, he started playing cricket in Punjab’s domestic leagues, making his first-class debut at 18 in the 2019 Ranji Trophy. Though his early career included just two first-class, four List A, and four T20 games, Ashwani made his debut in the 2022 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, featuring in four matches where he took three wickets at an economy rate of 8.5, impressing with his bowling skills in the domestic circuit.
Although his breakthrough came in the 2024 Sher-e-Punjab T20 Trophy. Where he was spotted by Mumbai Indians scouts. Mumbai Indians then secured him for Rs 30 lakh in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Although he was part of the Punjab Kings squad in 2024, he did not play a single game.
