What Went Wrong Between PCB and Gillespie?
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reacted following accusations from a former red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie that the cricket authority failed to clear some of his pending remuneration. In an Instagram story, Gillespie cited an interview with the Pakistani media, claiming he was still awaiting the PCB to clear some of his payments. We look in depth on What Went Wrong Between PCB and Gillespie?
Gillespie, together with South African Gary Kirsten, was made head coach of Pakistan’s red-ball and white-ball squads in April 2024 on two-year deals. Both coaches had to resign six months later when the PCB reduced their roles heavily, including taking them off the national selection panel.
In his messages, Gillespie vented his anger at the broken promises and drastic reversals, writing, ““Gary Kirsten and I got sold the dream of building a team. Losing a game, and all of a sudden, that gets thrown out of the window.” As Quoted by ndtv.com.

This is the first time both Gillespie and Kirsten have spoken openly of financial issues behind their exits from the PCB.
The PCB retaliated by releasing a statement dismissing the allegations of unpaid dues. The board maintained that Gillespie had departed in a sudden manner without following the contractual obligation of a four-month notice period, which it claimed was a violation of the contract. The PCB asserted that the conditions of the coaching contract, including the notice period, were clearly communicated to Gillespie.
Aaqib Javed Eyes HPC Director Role
The job of the High Performance Centre director became available following the resignation of former Test spinner Nadeem Khan. Former pacer Aaqib Javed has been filling in as the acting head coach ever since the resignations of Gillespie and Kirsten.
It is likely that Aaqib Javed would rather occupy the Director of the High Performance Centre position rather than remaining as the head coach. The PCB has asked for May 5 as the deadline for applying for the position of head coach, with rumors suggesting that it could go for a low-profile overseas coach this time.
