The IPL 2021 season was proving out to be a nightmare for Ishan Kishan. In his first 8 games of the competition, the lefty scored 107 runs at an avg of approximately 12. Following the failures in the middle order, the left-hander was left out of the eleven. Eventually, his fortunes improved once he was assigned to open the innings for MI.
Kishan scored 134 runs off 57 balls with a strike rate of 235.08 in his past 2 IPL games. On Friday, the youngster hammered a 32-ball 84 against the SRH at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Kishan was named Player of the Match after scoring the quickest 50 in IPL 2021 off only 16 balls, as MI won the match by a comfortable margin of 42 runs.
It was about the intent and the positive mindset: Ishan Kishan
He also put some worries about his fitness to rest before the 2021 T20 World Cup, which is set to begin on 17th October in the UAE. Kishan was relieved to have regained his form after MI’s thrashing against the Orange Army. He also stated that RCB and Indian captain Virat Kohli supported him in putting such effort to open the batting in the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE.
“A very good thing for me as well as for the team. Getting in good touch before the World Cup. Good state of mind is very important. I knew we are in a do-or-die situation. It was just the intent and the positive mindset. I haven’t scored as many boundaries in the cover region this season,” Kishan was quoted as saying after the match.
“You have to be prepared for every circumstance. It’s important to be in that mindset. I had a chat with Virat bhai, HP [Hardik Pandya], KP [Pollard] – they were all there. I would love to open, and that is what Virat bhai said. But at the bigger level, you need to be prepared for everything,” he added.
Kishan made his first appearance for India previously this year and did not disappoint. He scored 60 and 80 runs in 2 ODIs and 3 T20Is, correspondingly, with 2 half-centuries.
