Venkatesh Prasad Set to Become Next KSCA President After Nomination Race Narrows

Former Indian Pacer to Lead Karnataka Cricket

Former India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad is poised to become the president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). He emerged as the sole valid nominee for the top post after one rival’s nomination was rejected and another candidate withdrew, clearing his path to assume leadership. So let’s have a look at Venkatesh Prasad elected KSCA president 2025.

Prasad previously served as KSCA vice-president under Anil Kumble between 2010 and 2013. This time, he is heading the Team Game Changers panel, which aims to revamp the association and bring fresh energy to Karnataka cricket administration.

Panel Reshuffle and Setbacks

The nomination process saw a setback for Prasad’s panel when former treasurer Vinay Mruthyunjaya failed to clear scrutiny for the secretary’s position due to technical issues. Despite the rejection, Mruthyunjaya expressed his continued support for the panel.

In a statement, he said, “This decision has been a personal setback, but it has not shaken my commitment or my resolve. I now stand firmly behind Team Game Changers, ably led by our legendary cricketer Venkatesh Prasad.”

Vice-President Race Heats Up

While Prasad is set to become president, the contest for vice-president remains competitive. Sujith Somasundar of the Game Changers panel faces off against D Vinod Sivappa from Team Brijesh. Somasundar recently stepped down as Head of Education at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, bringing administrative experience to his candidacy.

Venkatesh Prasad: A Career of Excellence

Venkatesh Prasad, 56, enjoyed a decorated career for India. He played 161 ODIs, taking 196 wickets, and featured in 56 Test matches, claiming 96 wickets. Additionally, in List A cricket, he picked up 295 wickets from 236 matches. Prasad’s leadership experience, combined with his cricketing pedigree, makes him a strong figure to lead KSCA into a new era.

Elections Timeline

The window for withdrawing nominations closes on November 26, after which the final candidate list will be confirmed. The KSCA elections are scheduled for December 7 and will be supervised by a retired High Court judge to ensure a fair process.

With Prasad at the helm, Karnataka cricket is expected to see a strategic revamp, aiming to nurture young talent while maintaining strong ties with the national cricket ecosystem. His experience both on and off the field positions him as a transformative figure for the state’s cricketing future.
