Travis Head Released from T20I Squad to Prepare for Ashes
In a major development, Australian batter Travis Head has been released from the ongoing T20I series against India to focus on preparations for the upcoming Ashes series. The decision means Head will miss the final two T20Is and will instead represent South Australia in their Sheffield Shield encounter against Tasmania. So let’s have a look about Travis Head Released from T20I Squad.
Travis Head Not to Feature in Final Two T20Is vs India
Travis Head, a vital member of Australia’s squad across all formats, has been instrumental as an opener in limited-overs cricket and a key middle-order batter in Tests. Despite being a regular in the T20I setup, Head opted to skip the remainder of the India series to fine-tune his red-ball skills ahead of the high-profile Ashes.
The left-hander struggled during the India tour, scoring 65 runs across three ODI innings and only 34 runs in three T20Is. With his exit, either Matthew Short or Josh Philippe is expected to open alongside Mitchell Marsh in the last two matches.
Hazlewood and Abbott Return to Domestic Action
Along with Head, fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott have also left the T20I series midway. Both are set to feature for New South Wales in their Sheffield Shield clash against Victoria at the SCG.
While Hazlewood was initially selected only for the first two T20Is, Abbott was part of the squad until the third match at Bellerive Oval. Abbott’s departure could see Ben Dwarshuis returning to the squad to lead the bowling attack alongside Nathan Ellis for the remainder of the series.
Tanveer Sangha Joins Domestic Circuit Temporarily
Leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha has also been released to represent New South Wales in the One-Day Cup. However, Sangha is expected to rejoin the Australian setup before the fourth T20I in Gold Coast.
Selectors Prioritize Red-Ball Readiness Before Ashes
Cricket Australia’s decision reflects their focus on workload management and ensuring players are ready for the upcoming Ashes series, which begins on November 21 in Perth. Several senior players, including Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, and Cameron Green, are also featuring in domestic matches to prepare for the red-ball format.
