Top 5 overpriced players in IPL 2025 mega auction

Who are the most Top 5 Overpriced Players in IPL 2025 auction?

The IPL Mega Auction 2025 ended on November 25th, and every franchise held on to fill the gaps left in their squads. Some of the franchises spent huge fees on a few players, who are quite simply overpriced for the value they bring to the team. Let’s look at Top 5 overpriced players in IPL 2025 mega auction.

Here’s a list of 5 players who were bought for overpriced fees in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

5. Noor Ahmad

At number 5 we have Noor Ahmad, he made his debut for Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 and was a quick game-changer, he took 16 wickets in 13 games. However his form dipped last season, he took 10 wickets from 10 games but was consistent in his performance.

In the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, Chennai Super Kings bought him for a huge price of 10 crores. Interestingly, for GT he was at a base salary of 30 lakhs. 10 crore which seems to be higher than what he was valued at, is hugely overpriced given Noor Ahmed is not a regular for his national side. Interestingly, in IPL 2021, he was a nets bowler for CSK, so they might have made a calculated decision by picking him.

4. Jitesh Sharma

Jitesh Sharma was brought by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Given his failing performances in recent years, he might be feeling better by viewing the price he was bought at. Surprisingly, RCB bought him for a huge price of 11 crores.

Punjab fans were questioning the management, on why they missed out on the opportunity to sign the inform batter KL Rahul who was just 3 crores over Jitesh Sharma.

3. Jofra Archer

Jofra Archer was a surprising addition to the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, the English pacer was essentially not a part of the auction. But just a few days before the auction, he acquired his NOC (No Objection Certificate) and had himself registered in the auction.

Rajasthan Royals picked him for a fee of 12.5 crores. Injuries have been a major problem for Archer over the years, and he could never perform for Mumbai Indians. RR spending such a huge amount on the ace speedster certainly looks like an overspend.

2. Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal is a well-known name in the game of cricket, he is known for his wicket-tacking abilities that are tied with him. Released from the Rajasthan Royals, He went on to earn huge auction fees at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

Punjab Kings spilled a huge amount of cash to sign him. Punjab Kings got their player for a staggering price of 18 crores. While Chahal continues to be the all-time leading wicket-taker in the history of the Indian Premier League, it is quite natural to observe that 18 crores for Chahal is certainly an overpriced deal.

1. Venkatesh Iyer

At the top of the list we have Venkatesh Iyer, he was brought back by Kolkata Knight Riders for an astonishing 23.75 crores. Fans have been questioning the value of the player and the amount paid to purchase him at the auction.

For comparison, last season his salary was 8 crores, and now it has doubled up. While KKR was seemingly trying to grab top-order batsmen from their title-winning squad, the amount spent on Venkatesh Iyer is still overpriced.
