ODI cricket has undergone a massive transformation, especially since the 2015 ODI World Cup. The 50-over format is now a mere extension of the T20 format. Scores above 400 have become quite a norm in these big-hitting days. Batsmen have frequently started scoring runs in excess of 150 runs. The openers are the ones who are at the forefront of this revolution. ODI cricket hadn’t seen a single score above 200 in nearly 40 years of its existence. But the turn of the decade in 2010 has seen almost 8 double hundreds being scored. lets look at some names who have Highest Individual Scores In ODI Cricket.
Let’s Look At Who Has The Highest Individual Scores In ODI Cricket?
#5 Fakhar Zaman (210*)
Fakhar Zaman became the first Pakistani batsman to hit a double-century in ODIs. His feat came against Zimbabwe. He smashed 210 runs off 156 balls in 2018. His knock included 24 boundaries and 5 sixes. Zaman who had always threatened to come up with a big score finally scored a huge one.
He remains the only Pakistani batsman to have reached the landmark.
#4 Chris Gayle (215)
Christopher Henry Gayle is a cricketing legend. He has played the game for over two decades now. Gayle scored two triple centuries in Tests and a 200 in ODIs was not far from his reach. But the big-hitting Jamaican had to wait until the 2015 World Cup to notch up the big score.
His knock much like Zaman’s came against a hapless Zimbabwe attack. Gayle scored 215 runs off 147 balls. The innings comprised 16 sixes and 10 boundaries.
#3 Virender Sehwag (219)
Virender Sehwag had long back (2004) suggested that a double century is possible in ODIs. The little master, Sachin Tendulkar was the first to hit the magical number in 2010. But Sehwag soon followed suit in 2011.
He blasted a 147 ball 219 in Indore against West Indies. His knock was punctuated with 25 boundaries and 7 sixes.
#2 Martin Guptill (237*)
Martin Guptill went one better than Chris Gayle in the 2015 ODI World Cup. He registered the highest score in the World Cups. Guptill played one of the most enterprising knocks in ODIs. He smashed 237 not out off 163 balls against West Indies.
Guptill is the first and only New Zealander to have scored a double hundred in ODIs.
#1 Rohit Sharma (264)
Rohit Sharma became the third Indian to score a double century in ODIs. He is in fact the only batsman to score 3 double hundreds in the format. His first double hundred came against Australia in 2013 when he smashed 209. In 2014, he went one step better. Sharma broke all ODI records en route to his epic 264 against Sri Lanka.
This remains the highest ODI score. His knock consisted of 33 boundaries and 9 sixes. It is the highest percentage of runs a batsman has scored in boundaries. It was Sharma’s second double century. Sharma didn’t just stop there, he scored a third double-century against Sri Lanka in 2017. An ODI legend!
