Paine’s decision to have surgery was revealed by Cricket Australia (CA) owing to neck issues caused mostly by bulging. Paine didn’t have any issues completing light exercises, but it became trouble for him during certain heavyweight and intense training sessions. There are no Tests scheduled for Australia until November, giving Paine enough time for recovery from surgery and resume full training.
I won’t be as fit as strong as I’d like to be: Paine
“The precedent has been set, guys have got back from it reasonably quickly, We’ve been talking to all those players, their physios, their surgeons to track their rehab plans and get me back as quick as we can” – Paine Said.
Paine also stated that after restarting full training, he expects to be back in action within a week, indicating that he is excited to captain his side versus England in the Ashes.
“I am pretty confident outside of that six weeks I’ll be ready to go within a week. That gives me plenty of time (for the Ashes).
“I won’t be as fit as strong as I’d like to be. If I am moving freely, I‘ll give a good first of it.”
The wicketkeeper-batsman was also pleased with his choice to get the neck surgery done. Paine, who was first worried about getting the procedure, eventually chose to get it done so he could focus more on training with tremendous speed and intensity.
I want to keep playing for Tasmania after my international career: Paine
“I am pretty happy with the decision,” said Paine. “After the surgeon had a look in there, he said it was a good decision to get it done.”
Paine finished by stating that his choice to have surgery was motivated by his desire to represent his home state of Tasmania once his time with Australia had come to an end. Paine has been a long-serving Tasmanian and has made a significant contribution to the team’s success in recent years.
“I want to keep playing for Tasmania after my international career. To have it fixed and out of the way was the correct decision long term.” Paine said.
