“There is none even close to IPL,” says IPL Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal

Arun Singh Dhumal Comments On IPL

Arun Singh Dhumal, the chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL), believes that no other T20 franchise league can come close to competing with India’s lucrative league in terms of money or viewership.

Even though every country is attempting to establish a franchise-based T20 league, the global industry has only just begun to grow. Comparatively, the IPL has been in existence for 16 years, draws the biggest names, and to some extent puts a stop to international cricket while it is in operation.

Claiming that there are few franchise T20 leagues other of the IPL Arun Dhumal told in a Press Meet.

Since there is nothing even similar to IPL, we don’t consider anyone else to be our rival. We wish success to every board that is launching a T20 league, but I don’t believe any of them can compete with the IPL.

The IPL 2023 has been a resounding success, partly thanks to how fiercely intense this year’s competition was.

“It’s the ICC’s job to grow the game outside the traditional pockets”

In accordance with the ICC’s regulation, the IPL has essentially acquired a dedicated window in the upcoming cycle of the Future Tours Programme (FTP). The game is moving in the direction of a franchise-based system, which puts bilateral cricket and the lengthier game forms in danger.

If the dedicated window is approved, the number of matches in a season for the IPL will probably rise from the current 75 to about 100. As opposed to the built-in group system, clubs would presumably play every other team twice in such a situation.

“We will have to consult the franchises and team owners before taking a call. While we still have 10 months before the next IPL, a lot of discussions will have to take place before anything like that happens,” speaking about a potential increase in the salary cap, Dhumal said.

Arun Dhumal Concluded by dismissing the claim that the BCCI is helping Saudi Arabia to create its own T20 league

“It’s the ICC’s job to grow the game outside the traditional pockets. BCCI has helped nations in the past but as far as a T20 league in Saudi Arabia is considered, it’s all speculation.”
