The last week saw three Test matches being played simultaneously but only two of them, India vs Bangladesh and Australia vs Pakistan, were considered part of the World Test Championship.
The other Test match between New Zealand and England in the two-match Test series will not be considered under the ICC World Test Championship because as per the format of this championship’s rules, each country has to play six series’ under the championship where teams have to play three series at home and an equal number of series overseas.
The New Zealand vs England Test match series will not be part of the World Test Championship as England hasn’t played enough overseas series in this championship. Currently, England is scheduled to play four Tests in South Africa which is scheduled next month (December 2019) and Sri Lanka will host England in two Tests scheduled in March 2020.
Moreover, England will play 5 more Tests in India in January 2021 and the addition of another overseas series would have messed up the entire points system.
Team India skipper Virat Kohli also suggested a new format to make the World Test Championship even better when he said, “A more balanced format would be one series home, one away. We are playing very good cricket, but we have played only two Tests away.”
