T20-WC 2021 Will Be The First ICC Men’s T20I Event To Use DRS

The T20-WC 2021 is the first Men’s T20I World Cup event to introduce the Decision Review System (DRS). The International Cricket Council (ICC) approved this.

So every team will be given two reviews for each inning. The ICC announced that one more review has been included owing to the possibility of less experienced umpires serving in the event as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Additional improvement is the quantity of least overs that must be completed in the event, if a rain delay occurs during a game. Therefore for the Duckworth Lewis method to be used in the league stages, each side must have played at least 5 overs. For the semifinal and final matchups, this will be increased to at least to play 10 overs.

DRS was utilized for the first time in a major 2017 ICC Champions Trophy – T20-WC 2021

During the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2018, the DRS was utilized for the first time in a T20 World Cup. Each side was granted one review per innings during the event.

In men’s cricket, the DRS was utilized for the first time in a major ICC tournament at the 2017 Champions Trophy. The Decision Review System was also used for the 2019 Fifty-over World Cup in England, and also in the recent World Test Championship (WTC).

The T20 World Cup 2021 will be the 7th major event to be held in the Men’s T20 version of the game. The first-ever T20 WC was staged in South Africa in 2007, and the Indian team led by MS Dhoni won the 1st edition.

The West Indies have been the only national side to have won the Men’s T20 World Cup twice, and they are also the existing titleholders. In addition to India (2007) and Pakistan (2009), England (2010), Sri Lanka (2014) and the West Indies (2012 and 2016) have all lifted the T20 World Cup.
