Suryakumar And Ishan’s Shot Selection Is Not Correct: Gavaskar

The T20 World Cup 2021 is set ready to begin in just a few days, and squads will be checking off all of their requirements before taking part in the high-profile competition. Meantime, it’s seemed that many of the Indian team’s chosen players have failed to create an impression in the UAE leg of the IPL, which is a frightening signal. Former Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar discussed the performances of Mumbai batsmen Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan in the very same scenario.

Yadav and Kishan are both in India’s 15-man team for the T20 World Cup, although they both struggled to flourish in the UAE. In reality, Kishan was left out of Mumbai’s team for the last match and may not play again. Gavaskar claimed that both batsmen have become too relaxed after receiving the India cap and have been making poor shot selections for some period.

I think it looks to me like, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have just relaxed a little bit after getting the India cap. They might not have, but some of the shots they are playing – it looks like they are trying to play these big shots just because they are India players. Sometimes what happens is, you gotta give yourself a little bit of time, and you gotta get your shot selection right. And I think that is where they have missed this time around, where their shot selection has not been exactly correct, and that’s why they’ve got out cheaply,” said Gavaskar.

Hardik Pandya doesn’t get the flexibility and option: Gavaskar

In addition, Gavaskar also discussed Hardik Pandya’s recent failure to pick up the ball. Gavaskar was found that if Pandya is unable to bowl, it will be a major setback for the Indian team, as someone at 6 or 7 will have to provide that alternative to the captain. In his situation, the captain would find it tough to offer him opportunities in the starting XI.

Hardik Pandya, not bowling is a big blow, not just for Mumbai Indians, but for India as well, because he was taken in the team as an all-rounder. And if you are in the team, batting at No.6 or No.7, and you’re not able to bowl, then it makes it difficult for the captain. He doesn’t get the flexibility and option, that is so required for somebody batting at No.6 or 7 like an all-rounder,” he added.
