The Indian team dominated with the bat first and then continued with the ball. First Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to send India to bat first, however, the young Indian openers came out with aggression in mind. Both Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed 74 runs in the first six overs. It was a total domination by the Indian side mainly from the openers, and then it was continued by Suryakumar Yadav along with Rishabh Pant.

Even after India scored 213 in the first 20 overs, Sri Lanka came out with a strong reply at first but suddenly in the 14.1 overs a wicket fell and started the fall of wickets. Mainly the Sri Lankan batting lineup was completely destroyed by the Indian bowling unit.

Both Jaiswal and Gill started the onslaught with their impressive strokes, where they scored 74 runs before the first wicket fell. Jaiswal scored an impressive 40 runs in just 20 balls, while Gill scored 34 of 16 balls. This firey start gave Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar to take time and play excellently.

After the opener’s onslaught skipper himself along with Rishabh Pant, held the rope for the Indian side as the Indian team went on to score 213/7 in 20 overs. Sri Lanka Gave a Tough Fight But Failed to Stand Tall

In reply, Sri Lanka gave a strong fight as they scored 84 runs for the first wicket partnership. As Indian openers played aggressively, the Sri Lankan openers also played in the same way where Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis gave a hard time for the Indian bowlers early on. However, after the wicket of Kusal Perera in the 14.1 over the game was completely game in the favor of the Indian team.

Even after the match, the Sri Lankan skipper stated that they batted really well but the middle order and the rest of the batters failed to show, and that is why Indian bowlers captured the game.

Indian Bowlers Pull the Game Back from Sri Lankan Batters

Chasing a huge total the Indian bowlers held their nerves to win the game and pull a thrilling comback. The Sri Lankan team where going strong as at one point there were 140 for the loss of one wicket but suddenly the fall of Pathum Nissanka’s wicket started the downfall for Sri Lanka. The Indian bowlers gave a perfect reply in the second half of the second innings as they picked up 9 wickets in the final six overs to win the game for the team.

Riyan Parag was picked as the player match for picking up three wickets in just 8 balls and gave away five runs. While Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel picked up two wickets. Mohammed Siraj and Ravi Bishnoi also chipped in with one wicket each to pull an incredible comeback and restrict Sri Lanka to 170/10 in 19.2 overs.

In a game where Indian batters started the fireworks and were continued by Sri Lanka batters, the game suddenly shifted in the Indian team’s favor as wickets fell like a gick saw puzzle. The Indian team stayed strong and held their nerves in order to win the first T20I by 43 runs and take a 1-0 lead in the series.
