South Africa secure 2-0 series win over Bangladesh to remain in WTC Final contention  

South Africa’s WTC Final Qualification Scenario

South Africa defeated Bangladesh in the second and final test of the series by an innings and 273 runs to complete a 2-0 whitewash. Let’s take a look at South Africa’s WTC Final Qualification Scenario.

After posting a massive 575 in their first innings, the Proteas restricted Bangladesh to 159 and then asked them to bat again and bowled them out for 143 on the same day to win the test.

This series win benefitted the Proteas and made their case strong for the WTC 2025 final, and they not only climbed up to fourth on the points table with the whitewash, but now having better chances to book WTC finale berth due to their upcoming series will be at home.

South Africa’s World Test Champions Final Qualification Scenario  

As it stands, South Africa will host Sri Lanka and Pakistan for 2 test matches each. A four in four wins will confirm their ticket to WTC Finals. However, three wins and a draw or even a defeat will keep them in contention.  

Depending on India vs Australia (Border-Gavaskar Trophy) result, we will get to know the finalist by the first week of January 2025 itself, as both BGT and South Africa’s final test of the WTC 2023-25 will conclude on January 7.  

Bangladesh vs South Africa Test Series Summary  

After defeating Bangladesh by seven wickets at Dhaka, the Proteas then reached Chattogram for the second game.  

Opting to bat, the visitors put a huge 575 on board after a three-way century knocks. Tony de Zorzi was the top-scorer in the innings with 177, while Tristan Stubbs scored 106 and Wiaan Mulder remained not out at 105 as Proteas declared their innings.  

Similar to first test, the no.1 ranked test bowler, Kagiso Rabada, again picked a five-wicket haul and played his part in restricting Bangladesh to 159 in first innings.

Inviting to bat again, Bangladesh only able to score in their second innings and lost the second straight match of the series by an innings and 273 runs.
