Sri Lanka Women vs Malaysia Women Highlights

Opting to bat, Sri Lanka did not have the bests of the starts as they lost the wicket of their opening batter Vishmi Gunaratne for 1.

Captain Chamari Athapaththu and Harshita Madahvi added 64 for the second wicket before Madahvi left the crease after scoring 26.

Wicketkeeper batter Anushka Sanjeewani then joined captain at the middle and stayed with her at the crease until the penultimate ball of the final over of Sri Lanka innings.

Athapaththu played the role of aggressor in the partnership as she not only completed her third T20I hundred but also remained unbeaten at 119 after the end of 20 overs. She took 69 balls and hit 14 fours and 7 sixes in the process.

Sanjeewani also played her part really well as her 31 provided the much-needed support to Athapaththu, and Sri Lanka managed to post a total of 184 for 4 after 20 overs.

Sri Lanka bowlers’ dominance

The target was indeed big, and the Sri Lankan bowler’s perfect line and lengths made the run-chase more difficult for the Malaysian team.

Team Malaysia only able to score 40 runs despite playing 119 balls.

Shashini Gimhani bagged the most wickets for Sri Lanka with 3 scalps, Kawya Kavindi grabbed two. While Sachini Nisansala remained the most economical after bowling a spell of 4-1-4-1.

Sri Lanka with this win climbed onto the top spot on the Group B points table and strengthen their chances to qualify for semifinals of Womens’s Asia Cup 2024.
