Debutant Nishan Peiris stole the limelight once again on Day 3. After claiming four wickets in the first innings, Peiris continued his dream start to Test cricket by picking up three crucial wickets in New Zealand’s second innings. His wonderful performances made sure Kiwis batters did not have any control kind of control over the game.

Peiris managed to dismiss key players, including the well-set Devon Conway and Kane Williamson, who both looked promising but failed to convert their starts into big scores. Peiris’s success on debut has complemented the home team’s already potent spin attack, with Prabath Jayasuriya also proving difficult for the Kiwis batsmen to handle.

Jayasuriya’s love affair with Galle continued as he added another five-wicket haul to his impressive record at the venue in the first innings, playing a pivotal role in bowling out the Kiwis for just 88 early on in the day.
