SL vs NZ 1st Test Highlights Today Match
Sri Lanka comfortably won the first test against New Zealand on the final morning session on Monday at Galle.
The win not only helped Sri Lanka to go up 1-0 in the two-match series but they also overtook New Zealand on WTC Standings to claim third position.
It was Sri Lanka’s second straight win in the red-ball format, not so long ago, the Island team defeated England in the third test played in London.

Kamindu Mendis, who scored the most runs for Sri Lanka during the recently concluded England series, continued his good run against New Zealand also, and smashed a ton in the first innings to guide Sri Lanka to 305.
With the help of three half-century knocks from Tom Latham (70), Kane Williamson (55), and Daryl Mitchell’s (57), the tourists added 35 runs more than the hosts.
William ORourke, who bagged a fifer in the first innings, claimed three in second, while Ajaz Patel took a six-wicket haul for New Zealand despite that Sri Lanka recorded 309 in their second innings and set a target of 275 for the kiwis.
New Zealand had a bad start after losing their first wicket early, Kane Williamson left the field after scoring 30 while the Tom Latham also failed to convert his start of 28 into a big knock.
Rachin Ravindra, however, kept New Zealand’s hopes alive but due to lack of support from the other end, Rachin’s 92-run knock was unable to secure his side a victory.

Sri Lanka moved up to third on the standings with 4 wins out of 8 games in the current WTC cycle, and now have 50 percentage, 12.5 percent less than the second placed Australia. Team India is currently on top. While New Zealand slipped to fourth place.
Team Sri Lanka still has a chance to secure a ticket to WTC 2025 finals if they managed to win their remaining 3 games in WTC 2023-25 cycle.
