Shubman Gill injury rehabilitation at BCCI Centre of Excellence from December 1

Shubman Gill injury rehabilitation Updates

India’s all-format captain Shubman Gill is set to take a crucial step in his recovery as he begins the next phase of rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru starting December 1, 2025. Gill has been out of action since sustaining a neck injury during the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata, which subsequently ruled him out of both the second Test in Guwahati and the ongoing ODI series. So let’s know about Shubman Gill injury rehabilitation.

Gill Commences Structured Rehab Program

As per a report by the Times of India, Gill has already completed an intensive physiotherapy routine in Mumbai. Following this, he took a brief break in Chandigarh to spend time with family before heading to Bengaluru, where the BCCI’s medical experts will now oversee his fitness and recovery plan.

At the CoE, Gill will undergo a supervised rehabilitation schedule focused on restoring mobility, strength, and flexibility. His training load and recovery progression will be closely tracked as the medical team looks to gradually reintroduce cricket-specific activity.

Batting Workload to Resume Soon

During the initial recovery period, Gill has refrained from any batting to allow his neck to heal completely. However, early indications suggest he will soon return to the nets for controlled light sessions. The medical team will monitor his movements and reactions carefully to ensure there is no recurrence of discomfort.

A positive sign for the BCCI has been Gill’s ability to complete multiple flights—Kolkata to Guwahati, Guwahati to Mumbai, Mumbai to Chandigarh, and now Chandigarh to Bengaluru—without any pain or stiffness. Sources have described his progress as “encouraging, with no red flags so far.”

BCCI Not Rushing the Comeback

An official familiar with Gill’s recovery emphasised that no risks will be taken with the captain’s fitness. “He will return only when he is fully prepared for the intensity of international cricket. Gill is vital to India across formats, and everyone wants him to come back in peak condition,” the official noted.

The decision on Gill’s participation in the five-match T20I series against South Africa, beginning December 9, remains uncertain. His availability will depend entirely on how his body responds to batting and training sessions throughout the week.

A Crucial Week Ahead for India’s Captain

For now, Shubman Gill’s path back to full fitness has officially begun. With the BCCI adopting a cautious yet optimistic approach, the coming days will be instrumental in determining how soon India’s captain can rejoin the squad and return to competitive cricket.
