He disclosed that the upcoming Test match against India could potentially mark his last appearance in the Test format, and he also declared his retirement from T20 cricket. In addition, Shakib expressed his strong desire to conclude his illustrious career in front of his home crowd at Mirpur. He hoped to participate in his final match during the two-Test series against South Africa, which Bangladesh is scheduled to host in October-November.

However, despite his wish to retire in front of his home crowd, the current safety in Bangladesh has made it impractical for him to play there. Consequently, the Test match during the India tour might be his final appearance in the longest format of the game.

During the Press conference, Shakib said, “I have expressed my desire to play my last Test in Mirpur, if that won’t happen, the second Test against India would be my last. Going back to Bangladesh is not a concern, but leaving Bangladesh once I go there is dangerous,”

“It feels fitting to conclude my Test career in front of my home fans. Bangladesh cricket has given me so much, and I want to give my last in this format at home,” he added.
