Selectors Must Explain Chahal’s Omission From T20-WC: Sehwag

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) halted their two-match losing sequence by defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) by a score of 54 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal, who took 3 wickets and reduced the strong MI batting order to 111 runs, was the backbone of their success. Former India star cricketer Virender Sehwag praised Chahal’s efforts, calling him a “street-smart” performer and an asset to the side.

However, Sehwag has criticized the selectors’ decision to drop him out of the next T20 World Cup. Surprisingly, the BCCI selection committee has chosen Ravi Ashwin, Rahul Chahar, Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy as the spinners for the mega event. The selectors stated that they were looking for someone who could bowl quick leg-spin.

Chahal will be an asset for any side in T20 cricket: Sehwag

The cricket legend also demanded that the selectors must explain the proper reason why the India and RCB leg-spinner is not included in the 15-man team for the 2021 T20 World Cup.

Chahal was bowling well in the past also. I can’t fathom why he was omitted from the T20 World Cup squad. The selectors should explain. It’s not like Rahul Chahar bowled extraordinarily in Sri Lanka. The way Chahal is bowling, he will be an asset for any side in T20 cricket,” Sehwag said.

With the exception of Chahal, Harshal Patel, the purple-cap holder, bowled superbly for RCB and made it unforgettable with a hat-trick. Sehwag praised the right-handed pacer’s efforts as well. Chahal’s and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell’s time in the middle-overs, according to the former India opener, was the turning point, shifting the gear towards RCB’s side.

He knows how to bowl in his format, how to take wickets. The game was set up today by (Glenn) Maxwell and (Yuzvendra) Chahal. They took wickets in the middle orders which led to a turnaround,” said Sehwag.

The International Cricket Council has allowed countries till October 10 to make changes to their lineups or replace players. Chahal has a wealth of experience, having appeared in 49 T20I matches and taken 63 wickets. Also, he has performed admirably for RCB this season, so it will be interesting to see whether the selectors change their minds.
